What causes people to post comments on web logs?
My first web log post was about coffee and french presses, and my second was a silly post about spare change on my desk, and yet I've had no fewer than 9 comments posted so far. What causes people to say "I want to reply to that"?

People comment on blogs when they're sitting within 10 feet of you and you tell them about your latest blog post and they feel guilty if they don't go there and comment.

Sometimes people come across links to blogs last updated ten years ago, and feel like they should leave a comment on a post wondering what compels people to leave comments.
